Ohio Memory has published a new post, “State of the State: The Governor’s Annual Messages”

On January 8, 1790, George Washington delivered the nation’s first State of the Union address. These annual speeches are mandated by the United States Constitution and, with few exceptions, have been given every January for 225 years.
