Microfilm Services
The Ohio History Connection offers microfilm for purchase as a public service, and partners with Ohio cultural heritage institutions to provide original microfilming and microfilm digitization services for newspaper collections.
Microfilm Duplication
Purchase microfilm copies of some newspapers, government records and manuscript collections for individual or institution use. Film is produced on demand as 16mm or 35mm silver positives and may not be resold, duplicated or digitized without the written permission of the Ohio History Connection.
- Orders: Complete the Microfilm Duplication Order Form and send it to [email protected].
- Identifying Collections: Search the Online Collections Catalog for our newspaper (Roll:), government record (GR), manuscript (MIC) and printed material (FLM) holdings. Not everything in the catalog can be purchased, so please contact Rights & Reproductions staff to confirm availability.
- Loans: Most newspaper and some manuscript microfilm may also be borrowed via Interlibrary Loan.
Microfilm duplication costs $100 per reel plus shipping. Ohio residents must also pay sales tax (7.5%). Orders are nonrefundable after delivery.
Original Microfilming
Preserve your newspaper collections through microfilming. This service includes:
- Compliance: Filming to current American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards and best practices
- Access: Use copy for your institution’s collections
- Storage: Long-term storage of archives and duplicate master reels in the Ohio History Center’s secure temperature- and humidity-controlled vault
- Project Management: Expert staff to help with project planning and implementation from start to finish
Original microfilming costs start at $600/reel. Orders are nonrefundable after delivery.
Microfilm Digitization
Increase access to your newspapers by creating high quality, full-text searchable digital collections. This service includes:
- Compliance: Duplication of master negative microfilm for best quality images, and scanning and metadata description to current standards and best practices
- Access: Creation of full-text index, descriptive metadata and optional hosting services via Ohio Memory
- Storage: Long-term storage and file maintenance on Ohio History Connection’s image server
- Project Management: Expert staff to help with project planning and implementation from start to finish
Microfilm digitization costs are scaled to meet your budget and project needs, starting at $0.40/page. Orders are nonrefundable after delivery.
